The Road to Fisher Mountain

New mission plan: depart Conroe at 6:00 AM Friday. This is a more comfortable start and should align naturally with the 3 PM cottage check-in. Plan for roughly 7½–9 hours including live-routed charging, restroom breaks, traffic, and rural roads.

Fri 5:30–6:00 AM

🏠 Conroe Launch

Wake at 5:30 and have the Tesla moving by 6. Depart at 95–100% with breakfast packed and the private cottage address in navigation.

β‰ˆ 8:15–9:00 AM

⚑ East Texas Charge

Follow the car's live choice. Restroom, breakfast, and first driver handoff.

β‰ˆ 11:00 AM–12 PM

⚑ Texarkana Reset

Charge for the rural Arkansas leg, eat an early lunch, stretch, and switch drivers.

Target 1:30–3:00 PM

πŸ“ Mount Ida Arrival

Head to the cottage when check-in opens. If early, use the short buffer for the Rock Shop or groceries.

Arrival plan: Check-in is 3 PM. If you arrive early, visit the Fisher Mountain Rock Shop at 11 Logan Gap Road, confirm Saturday's road/weather status, browse the museum, or collect groceries. Do not assume early cottage entry unless host Chloe approves it.
Tesla reality check: traffic, storms, charging, model/battery, speed, temperature, and starting charge can change the schedule. Follow live Trip Planner and never make up time by speeding.

β‰ˆ 9:00 AM

πŸ’Ž Ocus Stanley Claim

The official FAQ estimates 10–15 minutes from the shop to the dig. Park near the digging area, keep the car accessible, and follow staff directions.

Every 30–45 min

πŸ’§ Hydration + Shade

July is hot and humid. Cool down early. Thunder means leave exposed ground immediately.

Lunch

πŸ”¬ Quartz Field Lab

Compare crystal faces, clarity, phantoms, matrix, and damage. The public dig's substantial collectible mineral is clear quartzβ€”not a fossil site.

Before 5:00 PM

πŸ† Birthday Specimen Ceremony

Choose the day's Story Crystal, photograph it before cleaning, and pack each special specimen separately.

Current public-dig pricing: $25 adult, $10 ages 7–17, $20 seniors 60+, and free for children 6 and under. No reservation is required for the public dig; private pocket digs require advance arrangements. Confirm prices and weather status directly before the trip.

Sources & Grown-Up Notes

Fisher Mountain's public dig is a clear-quartz experience, not a fossil-collecting site. The generated illustration is celebratory story art, not a literal depiction of the mine, cottage, crystal size, or a real child. Always follow staff, property, and weather rules.
